Was born in Ankara in 1963. Graduated from Kavaklidere Primary School and Ankara Ataturk Anadolu High School with an honor degree , she was accepted at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1981. After graduation in 1987 as a medical doctor and succeeding the TUS exam held at the same year, entered the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.
In 1992, she received her specialty degree. After completing her compulsory service, she worked at Trainning and Research Hospitals in Ankara and Istanbul as a specialist doctor. In 1998, she studied Pain Management with Prof. Dr. Isik Aydinli, MD., Chief of Algology Department at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine. Since then continued her studies on diagnosis and treatment of pain. In 2008, Dr. Birkan participated Certificate Program on Acupuncture for a duration of 500 hours including theoretical and practical trainning at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. Upon completion of the Program and passing the exam held under and certificated by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health, she worked with Prof. Dr. Cemal Cevik, MD. at the same University’s Acupuncture Clinic for almost a year and as a practical tutorial trainner for the 13th Certificate Program Class. As of 2008, she is a member of Ankara Acupuncture and Complementary Medicine Association and attended various certification programs in areas of complementary medicine including mainly neural therapy.
She was retired as a specialist in 2008 from Ankara Numune Trainning and Research Hospital, Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department. Since then, Dr. Birkan has been continuing to serve her medical profession at her own clinic in the areas of acupuncture, neural therapy and pain management.
